Artist Statement

My art practice explores the relationship between body, perception, and material. Grounded in philosophy and informed by my background in art education, I am interested in how we experience the world not just through sight, but through the full range of our sensory and embodied engagement. I often begin with a question: how do we feel, move, and exist in space? From there, I explore how art can become a means of translating these experiences.

Much of my recent work investigates the intersections of touch, sound, and movement through experimental processes. I use both traditional and non-traditional materials—fabric, light, sound, and gesture—to create works that challenge conventional boundaries between the visual and the tactile. In projects such as the tactile landscape fiber art series, I examine how landscape can be experienced not only visually, but also through touch and sensation. I also create fabric jewelry and accessories—these light, soft, wearable forms play with weight, texture, and presence, invite viewers to reimagine how we carry and perceive materials.

My workshops and participatory projects—such as Finger Painting and Visualizing Sound—are grounded in my commitment to cross-sensory artmaking. These sessions explore the permeability between senses and highlight how perception is an active, dynamic process. I also engage with performance and conceptual practices; in a recent collaboration titled Walking as Embodied Act, I explored walking as both a meditative and political gesture—an art practice that reclaims space and presence.

Cultural systems and ecological awareness also inform my work. I am especially drawn to the aesthetics of East Asian traditions, including the visual poetics of Chinese ink painting, and reinterpret them through contemporary techniques such as abstract watercolor. I often explore the tension between material and non-material elements—between the seen and the sensed. Light, sound, and air become mediums for reflection, ambiguity, and transformation.

Ultimately, my work is a search for connection—between the self and others, body and space, material and meaning. I invite viewers into an experience that is at once intimate, open-ended, and grounded in the subtle richness of embodied perception.
